Troop 19 is a family-supported program, and parent involvement is essential.

Role Overview
Committee Member support the troop through planning, organization, and program oversight.
This role is ideal for parents who prefer behind-the-scenes involvement while still playing an
essential role in the troop’s success.
Participation
● Supports troop operations and administration
● Welcome to attend campouts
Requirements
To serve as a Committee Member, you will:
● Register online as an adult leader with Troop 19
● Complete Youth Protection (Safeguarding Youth) Training
● Complete Committee Member online training
● Commit to attending approximately two committee meetings per year
Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM)
Role Overview
Assistant Scoutmasters work directly with Scouts to:
● Teach Scouting skills
● Support rank advancement
● Mentor Scouts as they work toward personal and leadership goals
This role is ideal for parents who want a hands-on experience working with Scouts, especially
during meetings and campouts.
Participation
● Active role in troop meetings and outings
● Works closely with Scouts in a mentorship capacity
Requirements
To serve as an Assistant Scoutmaster, you will:
● Register as an adult leader through your my.scouting account
● Complete Youth Protection (Safeguarding Youth) Training
● Complete Assistant Scoutmaster online training
● Complete Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) within 6 months of registering
Additional Requirement
Our chartered organization (American Legion) requires:
● IOLS training for all Assistant Scoutmasters
This training:
● Is typically a weekend course
● Is offered several times each year at local Scout camps
Board of Review (Important Parent Role)
Boards of Review are:
● A key part of rank advancement
● Conducted regularly (often at troop meetings)
What Happens
● Scouts meet with a panel of adults
● Discuss their experience and progress
● No retesting—this is a conversation, not an exam
Parent Participation
● We need 2+ parents at each Board of Review
● No training required
